  • Le​gal Framework for Waste Management in Mauritius​

  • The current legal framework in Mauritius for the environmentally sound waste management comprises the Environment Pro​tection Act (EPA) of 2002, as amended in 2008, and the Local Government Act (LGA) of 2011 as amended in 2018.  The following Regulations have been made under the EPA and the LGA: 

  1. Environment Protection (Standards for hazardous wastes) Regulations 2001​​
  2. Local Government (Dumping and Waste Carriers) Regulations 2​021
  3. Local Government Act (Registration of Scavenging Contractors) Regulations 2004​
  4. Environment Protection (Collection, Storage, Treatment, Use and Waste Oil) Regulations 2006​​
  5. Local Government Act (Registration of Recycler and Exporter) Regulations 2013​​​
