MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE

COMMUNIQUE

Mauritius is signatory to the Montreal Protocol since 1992 and the focal point is the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change. The objective of the Protocol is to regulate the production and consumption of nearly 100 man-made chemicals referred to as ozone depleting substances.

In view of meeting its obligations under the Montreal Protocol, the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change has been implementing its Hydrochlorofluorocarbon Phase (HCFCs)-out Management Plan since 2011 to eliminate the use of HCFCs and replacing them by alternatives that are both ozone and climate friendly.

The Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change is preparing a database of Refrigeration and Air conditioning (RAC) technicians who are interested to attend trainings in the handling, installation and maintenance of RAC equipment running on natural refrigerants such as carbon dioxide, ammonia and hydrocarbons. The trainings would be provided free of charge on a first come and first served basis.

In this respect, RAC technicians and companies involved in the handling, installation and maintenance of the such equipment are invited to register themselves with the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change.

The registration form is available on the website of the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change on https://environment.govmu.org. All filled forms to be submitted on menv@govmu.org at latest by the 30th August 2024.
