MESA Flood Service System
The Monitoring for Environment & Security in Africa (MESA), is an European Union (EU) funded project that makes use of proven satellite and land-based monitoring technology on climate and environmental data to enable decision makers and planners to develop plans towards sustainable development to ensure socio- economic benefits for the communities.
Mauritius is benefiting from the flood service system component of this project. The MESA flood service for Mauritius is being hosted by the University of Mauritius. The MESA Flood Service will provide earth observation for monitoring status before, during and after a flood event, thereby contributing to effective land use and disaster management planning and policy making at national level. This will also help National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Centre (NDRRMC) during NEOC activation in coordinating logistics during relief operations.
